Named from the Greek 'micros' meaning 'small' and 'kleinen' meaning 'to incline'. This refers to the small deviations in its intersecting right - angle cleavage.

Microcline is one of the potassium - bearing feldspars and occurs as white to cream - coloured crystals. It can occur as very large crystals and masses in pregmatites where it is often mined for use in the ceramic and paint industries. A variety of microcline known as amazonite has a beautiful green coloration.

Occurrence.

Microcline is a widespread and common mineral of acidic plutonic rocks, such as pegmatites and granite, as well as syenite.
